Welcome to Oak Knoll Kinderhaus Montessori School

Oak Knoll Kinderhaus Montessori School is an authentic Montessori school, following Maria Montessori’s vision of creating an educational framework that allows the child to develop through purposeful activity in a prepared environment.  Our school provides a high quality Montessori education to children 18 months through 12 years of age.  We believe that parent (and extended family) participation is essential to creating a cohesive school community that nurtures each child’s full potential.

We have two campuses: the main campus for toddler and pre-school students on Lake Avenue near Washington Boulevard and a campus for elementary students on Cornishon Avenue in La Cañada .

Our facilities are situated to allow children to work inside their classrooms, or to carry their work outside into our garden areas. Children may plant and harvest flowers and vegetables, feed the birds and squirrels, and bring classroom equipment outside.

Our classrooms are filled with beautiful flower arrangements put together by the children. The beauty and peacefulness of the school  environment contributes to the calmness necessary to master activities as simple as pouring water to as complex as mastering mathematics.

Montessori is more than an educational philosophy.  It is a comprehensive theory of human development with a full curriculum that has been validated by neuroscience and cognitive development research conducted in the last 30 years. Children who go through Montessori develop a strong love of learning and a strong sense of self and joy about their ability to use their minds to think critically and problem solve.
